Fianna Fail

The Fianna Fail vote was down 2.5 points but with 2.5 quoats their two seats were secure.

Brigid Murphy had been co-opted onto the council as a replacement for her late father Jack Murphy, who had taken the first Fianna Fail seat in 1991. Brigid Murphy's vote was down by 226 first preference on her father's vote and she was the first candidate eliminated.

Pat Millea had been elected in the Tullaroan area in 1991 but moved to Ballyragget for this election where he increased his share of the vote by nearly 3 points and took Fianna Fail's first seat.

Martin Fitzpatrick decided to avail of the gratuity scheme and he was replaced on the council by newcomer Martin Carroll who polled practically the same number of first preferences as his colleague Pat Millea.

Fianna Fail's fourth candidate, Sean Warren, came bottom of the poll with just under 600 first preferences.
