First elected at by-election Oct. 1998 Appointed spokesperson on Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, June 2002. Member Joint Committee on Communications, Marine and Natural Resources. Won 1998 by-election caused by the death of his father Hugh Coveney TD. Spokesperson on Drugs and Youth Issues, Deputy Chief Whip and Secretary Fine Gael Parliamentary Party 1998-2002. Elected to Cork County Council in 1999. Member Southern Health Board. Played rugby for Garryowen, Cork Constitution and Crosshaven. Led the Sail Chernobyl Project which raised £500,000 for charity by sailing a boat around the world along with his sister and brothers. A fully qualified Sailing Instructor and LifeGuard. Responsible for the management of the family farm and family interests in County Cork. Son of the late Hugh Coveney TD 1982-Feb 82, Nov 82–1987, 1994 (by-election) –1998. | |
