Born Kilkenny 4th July 1960. Educated St Kierans College, Kilkenny and UCC (BA, HDipEd). Full-time Public Representative. Formerly Insurance Broker and Auctioneer. First elected 1989 and at each subsequent election.

Contested Fine Gael Leadership election in June 2002. Appointed Front Bench Spokesperson on Enterprise, Trade and Employment, June 2002. Member Joint Committee on Enterprise and Small Business. Director of Organisation Feb 2001-June 2002. Chairman of Parliamentary Party and Director of Organisation 1995-2001. Minister of State at Department of Finance Dec 1994-Feb 1995. Fine Gael front bench spokesperson on Regional Affairs and European Development 1993-1994; Consumer Affairs 1991-1993; Food Industry 1989-1991. Senator 1987-1989. Fine Gael Senate opposition spokesperson on Industry and Commerce 1988-1989, Justice 1987-1988. First elected to Kilkenny County Council 1982 (Chairman 1985/1986). Member South Eastern Health Board since 1991. Member GAA, Kilkenny Archaeological Society, Castlecomer Golf Club.
