Born Termon, Co. Donegal 3rd October 1949. Separated, three sons and one daughter. Educated St. Eunan's College, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal and UCG. Minister of State. Formerly Medical Doctor. First elected 1989 and at each subsequent election.

Appointed Minister of State at Dept. of Transport (with special responsibility for Road Traffic including Road Haulage) on 6th June 2002. Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation 1997-2002. Previously spokesperson for Equality and Law Reform. Member Forum for Peace and Reconciliation. Founder member and Chairman of Donegal Hospice Movement since 1988.
