Born Bantry, 23rd July 1955. Married to Mary Murphy, three sons, one daughter. Educated Bantry Secondary School; Carrignavar Secondary College; UCC (BCL). Public Representative, Solicitor. Contested 1989, 1992 and 1997 general elections. First elected 2002.

Appointed Chairman All Party Committee on the Constitution, October 2002. Member Committee on Communications, Marine and Natural Resources and Committee on Justice, Equality and Law Reform. Contested 1993 Senate election. Senator 1989-1993 and 1997-2002. Member Cork County Council since 1985 (Chairman 1989/1990).
