Married to Breige McGinn, one son, four daughters. Educated St. Mary's CBS, Monaghan. Full-time Public Representative and former Bank Official. Contested 1987, 1989 and 1992 general elections. First elected 1997. Sinn Fein’s Parliamentary Group Leader and spokesperson on the Peace Process and Northern Ireland. He also has responsibility for Finance and Health and Children. Member Joint Committee on Finance and the Public Service. Member British Irish Inter-Parliamentary Body. Represented Sinn Fein at the Forum for Peace and Reconciliation and was a member of the Sinn Fein negotiating team during the talks which led eventually to the Good Friday Agreement. Member Monaghan County Council since 1985, also a Member of Monaghan UDC since 1974. Director of Elections in H-Block campaign 1981 when Kieran Doherty was elected TD for Cavan-Monaghan. General Manager of republican newspaper An Phoblacht up to 1985. Member of Sinn Fein Ard Chomhairle since 1983. | |
