Born Dublin January 1943. Married to Patricia Brehony. Educated North Strand Vocational School; College of Technology, Bolton Street; College of Industrial Relations; School of Management, Rathmines. Full-time Public Representative and former Production Controller and Work Strategy Supervisor in CIE. First elected 1989. Re-elected 1992. Lost seat in 1997 and elected to Senate. Won back seat at 1998 by-election following resignation of Ray Burke. Re-elected 2002.

Labour spokesperson on Older People’s Issues. Member Joint Committee on Social and Family Affairs. Senator 1997-1998. Seanad Whip and spokesperson on Public Enterprise, Defence, Environment and the Marine 1997-98. First elected Dublin County Council 1983, former chairman. Current member Fingal County Council. Member Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA). Former member ATGWU.
