Born Togher, Cork 22nd March 1940. Married to Philomena Martin, five sons, two daughters. Educated Sharman Crawford Technical Institute; Cork College of Commerce. Full-time Public Representative, formerly Engineering Supervisor, Irish Steel Ltd. First elected 1987. Re-elected 1989. Lost seat 1992. Beaten by Hugh Coveney in 1994 by-election. Returned to Dáil 1997.

Appointed Chairman Joint House Services Committee, Oct 2002. Member Committee of Public Accounts. Member Joint Committee on Procedure and Privileges. Former member of British-Irish Inter-parliamentary Body. Assistant Government Chief Whip 1989-1991. Member Cork City Council since 1979 (Lord Mayor 1983-1984). Chairman Southern Health Board, 1984-1986, 1995-1997.
