Born Dublin 7th February 1934. Married to Teresa Ward, four sons, two daughters. Educated St. Mary's College, Dundalk; Blackrock College, Dublin and UCD (MB, Bch, BAO, Dch, LM). Cheann Comhairle, former General Medical Practitioner. Unsuccessful candidate in by-election in Monaghan in 1973. First elected 1977 and at each subsequent election.

Former Chairman of Cross Border Development Committee, Eastern Region. Member of Monaghan County Council 1979-1987. Medical representative on the North Eastern Health Board from its inception in 1970 to 1987.
