Chairman of Joint Committee on Finance and the Public Service 1997-2002. Former Chairman Standing Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills. Fianna Fail spokesperson on Office of Public Works and Taxation Policy 1994-1997. Minister of State, Department of Industry and Commerce (with special responsibility for Science and Technology 1992–1993). Fianna Fail Deputy spokesperson on Transport 1984-1987. Appointed by the Accountancy Bodies of Ireland as their representative on S.M.E. Committee (Small and Medium Enterprises Committee) of F.E.E. (the European Accountancy Federation) 1995. Member, Carrigtwohill Community Council; Muintir Na Tire; Dungourney Hurling Club; Midleton Gaelic Football Club; Midleton Rugby Football Club. He is a son of the late Liam Ahern, Senator 1957-1973 and Dáil deputy for Cork North East 1973-1974. His granduncle, John Dineen, was Farmers Party Dáil deputy 1922-1927. | |
