Educated Graigue NS. Full-time Public Representative. Former Sugar Company employee. Contested 1973 and 1977 general elections and 1974 and 1979 by-elections. Dail deputy for Cork East 1981-Nov 1982, 1987-1992. First elected as a Sinn Fein The Workers Party deputy in 1981. Re-elected in the first election of 1982 but lost his seat in November of that year. Won a seat for the Workers Party in 1987 and retained it in 1989. Joined Democratic Left when it broke away from the Workers Party and represented them in the Seanad from 1993 to 1997. Following amalgamation of DL with the Labour Party, he successfully contested the 2002 general election as a Labour candidate. Member Cork County Council since 1974. Member Mallow UDC since 1967. Member Southern Health Board. Former member Cork County VEC. Chairman Mallow Hospital Co-ordinating Committee. Member Mallow GAA Club. | |
