| 21 October 2008 | NEWS | Resignations over Budget Proposals There is a growing list of TDs and Councillors who have resigned as a result of the proposal in the Budget of 14 October 2008 to introduce means testing for medical cards for those over 70. Wicklow TD Joe Behan has resigned from Fianna Fáil while Independent TD Finian McGrath has withdrawn his support from the Government. This has reduced the Government's majority to 8. | 3 April 2008 | NEWS | Changes in Party Affiliation Ardee Town Councillor Leonard Hatrick has announced he is leaving the Progressive Democrats and joining Labour with immediate effect. He cited disagreements over health policy as a significant factor in his decision. Mayo TD Beverley Flynn has been re-admitted to Fianna Fáil following a unanimous vote at a meeting of the party's National Executive. She is not yet a member of the Parliamentary Party - her re-admission will be considered on Tuesday 8 April 2008, but is expected to proceed without controversy. |
