9 November 2012: Click here for Seán Donnelly's analysis of the result and polls in each State.
This analysis of polls shows most were within the margin of error. The most accurate polls were those in swing states as these were the most polled hence produced more accurate averages. Most states (41) erred on low side ie underestimated vote. Only Ohio of toss up states overestimated Obama’s vote and by one point only. It was a similar story in 2008, which is a strong indication the polls are reliable. Counts are still not complete in 18 states and some states listed as complete are still posting revised figures. They still have not called Florida even though margin is currently 51,938 to Obama. See Politico for latest results.
