Born Cork, 1959. Married to Conor Clune, four sons. Educated Ursuline Convent, Blackrock, Cork; UCC (B.Eng. Civil, HDip Env Eng). Civil Engineer. First elected to Dail 1997. Lost her seat in 2002 but regained it in 2007. Lost again in 2011. Contested 2002 Seanad election. First time Senator.

Front bench spokesperson on Innovation & Research 1st July 2010-2011. Deputy spokesperson on Enterprise with special responsibility for Innovation, 2007-2010. Member Public Accounts Committee and Member Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment 2007-2011. Junior spokesperson on Environmental Information and Protection 1997-2002. Member Joint Committees on Environment and Local Government; Health and Children 1997-2002. Member Cork City Council 1999-2007. Lord Mayor of Cork 2005-2006. Succeeded her father Peter Barry as TD for Cork South Central in 1997. Peter Barry was TD 1969-1997 and Tánaiste 1987, Minister for Foreign Affairs 1982-1987, Minister for the Environment 1981-1982, Minister for Transport and Power 1973-1976, Minister for Education 1976-1977 and Deputy Leader Fine Gael 1979-1987 and 1989-1993. Grand-daughter of Anthony Barry, TD Cork Borough 1954-1957 and 1961-1965, Senator 1957-1961.
